The most recent Final Fantasy I've played is FFX.

I heard that most of the continuations did the Final Fantasy series shame, but I have never played them, and i don't want to just shrug them off as "unworthy" of me playing them.

I have played Final Fantasies I, II, IV, a little of V, VII, IX, and X. my favorites are VII and X, by far.

Would anyone recommend I attempt to get into the newer games?

as for the new ones (the ones that came after 10, when Square and Enix fused): they are very different to the first 10, I personally don't like them, but that doesn't mean they are bad, just not the classic jrpgs Square developed

ahh ok, i would've played 8 already, but when i was like 10 my older brother said "final fantasy 8 is sooo gay" so i decided to avoid it, lol oh well. and i'm just afraid the new ones will sorely disappoint me

8 has imo the worst gameply from the first 10..... BUT the best story. Once you get towards the end of Disc 1 the story ggets epic, and Squall (the main character) has his character developed like in no other FF games.

I don't have FFVIII in my top 3 FF games because the gameply kinda brings it down for me (even though it's not bad, just worse than the other Square FF mechanics), but I do consider it a great game; definetely worth playing.

And 6 is regarded as one of the best FFs ever (some say the best, but I don't personally agree), you should definetely look into it aswell.

It's been such a long time since i played FFX i can't remember much about it, when that HD version comes out i'll pick that up and play it again.

i personally stopped playing after 10 as well(i actually never completed 10)

Although the older FinalFantasy games are obviously classic and great,
There's nothing wrong with the newer FinalFantasy games.
I mean if you dont like better graphics stick to older versions.
But the newer games just offer more things to do.
