Yes. You needed to be a sub for at least 3 months to get the Alpha key.

They must be using ALL their profits from FFXI to try to make FFXIV not suck lol.

Have you actually played it a lot after 1.17? They have added a ton of things to the game and shaped it up much more. Yes, the UI still sucks and servers crash, but the game was by no means "suck" at the end of its first run.

Square puts so many MMOs to shame with just a half-assed product it's funny how all these companies are marketing their triple A MMOs these days.

So it's not a new game ( i.e. old 14 characters still exist and fully leveled etc) ?

I headed this and got excited for a new game but would be slightly deterred if I was joining a few year old community where most focus is end game where I am no where near (knowing ff online takes ages to get to end game stuff from scratch )

They honestly haven't said. I think I read something about ppl getting some credit for there progress in 14. But they werent talking about what it would be. I think they'll launch with no saved char s. It just makes more sense considering how heavy of an overhaul they're doing

Never thought I would get addicted again, but even in alpha its alot more fun
Its still all up in the air, but im excited atm. I really hope they keep our old chars, because its going to be a ton of work to level em back up again

It a completely different game imo
They still have alot of tweeks to change
But they did change alot of the things of 1.0
Pretty much making a new game, or maybe call it ffxi 2.0?
Still alot of changes to be made. Kinda cool to know what they are doing for actually releasing the game. Kinda like d3 beta, where they messed with a bunch of stuff. Although d3 beta was nothing like d3 release, besides actual content.
They changed so much from begining of beta till even now with their patches lol
