what would be the best team to use

i know cloud is a must so

1. cloud
2. cid
3. yuffie

that would be my team any arguments?

Any team is good because of how materia changes stats.
Cid and Cloud are always a great choice because they get triple materia growth weapons, so they definetely are good choices (well, Cloud isn't a choice, but whatever).
Yuffie has arguably the best Ultimate weapon, but has a pretty bad limit break attack. I personally prefer Barrett or Vincent, but Yuffie isn't a bad choice.
But like I said, aslong as you have the right materia combination, any team can storm through the game, just uuse whatevr characters you like the most.

What a coincidence, I plan on going with Cloud / Yuffie / Cid on my playthrough also.

I think Yuffie has one of the better limit breaks tbh. She has one that is like a crappy Omnislash(which is still pretty good). Cid probably has the best limit break out of all the characters you can actually pick from. Basically, anyone but Vincent and RedXIII(especially Vincent) are viable choices(if you are factoring in good limit breaks as a choice).

Endgame ?

Yuffie is a must for stat maxing because of her ultimate weapon.

Cid and cloud both have triple growth weapons for materia leveling as stated.

The best 2 all depends on their limit breaks since it is the only thing that separates them.

So for the 2 to go with cloud its out of Yuffie, Cid and barret.

I always use Yuffie and Cid.

I really enjoyed my Cloud, Cait Sith, and Tifa playthrough.

I also liked Cloud, Cait Sith, and Vincent playthrough.

The team doesn't matter in any final fantasy game because you can beat the game with any team.

this thread has made me wanna start yet another FF7 game.. its been a while..

Yup, you'd need Yuffie in that case... even using her for stat maxing is a pain, I can imagine what it's like using other characters lol

anyway, with the right materia even the "ultra powerful" Emerald/Ruby Weapons are easy to beat without being even close to stat maxing

the only FF I've played that requires stat maxing to beat the game 100% is FFX, unless you can use Yojimbo's Zanmato against the Dark Aeons and Penance ofc
