The battle system could have been better though. It's the only reason I still haven't bought the game, because it's my least favorite part about it. I've seen at least 5 hours of gameplay just watching a friend a few times, and I really hate the battles in it. Like, XII did a much better job with trying to break the whole "standing in a line" aspect.
And I don't think an old school style system like that in a new game is a bad thing. Lost Odyssey was pretty good, and it was just about the same as PS1 era RPGs battle wise.
I haven't beat Lost Odyssey but the battle system was tolerable, I'll give you that. I've never minded the Paradigm system in XIII/XIII-2; I mean, yeah, you get to a point where you're using the same 2-3 paradigms and everything becomes a cakewalk but that tends to happen in most RPGs once you get the hang of things and reach god-mode. Who knows, it's all personal preference. The storyline's incredible, the game looks beautiful and it feels as if I'm playing a movie.
