So I heard a rumor FFXI is going to get another expansion and introduce a couple new classes. I played it a lot back in the day and was wondering if there is any legitimacy to this.

Yeah it's true, there is a new expansion coming out early next year. One of the classes will be Geomancer, the other one the name hasn't been given yet, but it looks like a great sword user.

Edit: Also, the expansion will not be available for PS2. So that means it will be completely new content that won't be limited by the PS2. So in other words it's gonna be fresh.

Both classes were released. Geomancer and Rune Fencer.

Ah, so they finally released the name. When it was first being talked about, only thing that was leaked was Geomancer. Rune Fencer is kind of a dumb name in my opinion. But w/e, i'll probably never play either job anyways lol.

I can't imagine it's going to be much different than Red Mage, but we'll see. Perhaps it will be like Steiner in FF9, with his elemental weapon attacks? Who knows. Surprised the game is still alive, although it's stated to be the most profitable Final Fantasy to date.

Honestly based on what I've seen, I think it might be more similar to PLD, but not quite as good a tank overall. It has a lot of reduces damage "runes" type spells, and it can use both sword and GS like paladin. But, we'll see.
