If you don't follow the news, or haven't heard, there was a huge earthquake in Japan on March 11. There have been continuing minor ones all over the East and North East coasts since then. The power companies in Japan have been concerned that there might not be enough power to go around, so they are urging everyone to conserve as much as they can. As a result, SE has decided to shut down services for at least a week to conserve power.


On a side note, it is REALLY annoying hearing people talk about this.. people are too addicted to these games and act like it's gonna be the end of the world if they can't play for a couple of weeks. Rather, your concern should be more with Japan, this is a very serious matter. Get well soon Japan, my thoughts are with you.

ah didnt even think about their servers being affected..that sucks, but if i were in their place i'd do the same. was about to retry ffxiv too! X(

They weren't forced to shut them down, they willingly shut them down to help. They weren't affected at all.

The servers will be back online Mar. 25, 2011 4:00 (PDT).
