Was replaying the game recently, and one part of the story didn't make sense to me. For those that haven't played the game yet, there are spoilers to the storyline in this question.

Nibelheim (sp) was burnt down by Sephiroth, which was Cloud's home town five years prior to the events in the game. However,you go to that town later, and everyone says that Nibelheim wasn't burnt down, and that Cloud never lived there. Later, when Tifa goes inside Cloud's head, they confirm that he used to live there and it was burnt down, but obviously the whole Zack vs Cloud identity scenario. So is that the same Nibelheim you go to in the game, or was there a larger time lapse than Cloud thought, or what exactly is the explanation here?

Um, I think he lived there, but the town must've been rebuilt cuz 5 years time is a lot. And you saw that Cloud wasn't really a Soldier but he was a retard in blue.

It was a cover-up by Shinra. They rebuilt the town and moved people there. Namely because the Shinra Mansion was still being used, being the place Cloud & Zack were being given the Jenova Cells. (Scene during Disc 3 or something I think, shows Zack/Cloud busting out of the Mansion.).

It's called a plot hole, 7 is full of them.

But yeah, it was a cover up by Shinra.
