Like it's an unbased rumor. That's how it makes me feel.

If they now made FF11 ftp I'd go play it.

I have no problem buying a game, but paying for 1 game specifically 15$ a month is excessive imo.

Hahahaha, no link, or any remote trace of any lead for this. Sounds to me like you're just making shit up. Hell would freeze over before this game had no subscription.

If you can read Japanese it came from the earnings call detailed here: http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20101104_404592.html

Sadly, it's an option they're considering but hopefully they can make the game worth a monthly fee before it gets to that point!

You must not play MMOs... F2P pretty much be the death of the game for western players if it came to that. =/

Keep in mind that when they say free to play, there's a catch. They will end up using a cash shop and create content that makes you want to spend money in the cash shop. A MMO can't live on a completely free to play model, they cost way too much to maintain, if they do go free to play expect a huge drop in content and story quality. If you compare a MMO to a game you just buy once like, say *insert generic shooter everyone loves*, you're not just getting the same game to play for months with only balance tweaks or new achievements. You're getting an ever evolving gameplay experience with entirely new story arcs, balance tweaks, completely new content, and new features. Your monthly fee is basically giving you a mini expansion every month or two with quality GM and product support.

Yah I've played them before F2P ones that started as F2P, all that would really mean for ff11 is that they want more people to come play it, but also letting you know that they aren't going to be updating it very much or giving it too much more support since they moved on to 14.

The article hints at making FF14 free to play, not FF11. >.<

I know, but I figured since the OP was suggesting something inane, that I would just avoid commenting on that and maybe offer a suggestion that is halfway plausible.

It'll never happen, there is absolutely no way. Plenty of people will be willing to pay to play this, I knew a ton of people on FFXI that were going to leave to play.

Also, there is gonna be a discount for FFXI if you subscribe to FFXIV(pretty good strategy to get people to pay for both), so that right there already shows that the game has no chance of being F2P. The point is, more than enough people will buy it and pay a monthly subscription, even with the amount of griping going on. It's just since this is a FF title that things are getting blown way out of proportion.
