If its anything like 13, I will cry and never puchase a Square game again.

13 has to be as low as Square goes.

Same thing i said when i first watched a versus 13 trailer: "Wow."

but just like Djinni said, i was amazed by ff13s trailers too, and cant bear the play that game again...

and id rather play a failure like maple story than ff14, cuz i know i'd actually start having some fun after a while. xD

but square is having less trouble with action rpgs (KH: BBS..)...its like theyve exhausted all normal rpg possibilities...

and on that note...it kinda does look like a ripoff of castlevania curse of darkness' joachim...but more instense...(flying swords n all...)

I really love the 6-7-8 , and actually like the 12-13 , you can't compare them that's all

and i am waiting for the versus since it looks great

Why would you base any opinion of a game on a trailer anyways? You guys really aren't that naive still... right?

Why yes, Yes i am.

Because i actually did believe in square. As corny as it sounds. While they do sell out with main stream titles eg kingdom hearts, they never actually gave themselves over to the dark side (eg big business and pure profits)

I have to say, x-2 started it. 13 finished it.

That being said, star ocean on the ps3 is an amazing game so maybe there is hope..

That's because the Star Ocean franchise is an Enix product. Enix > Square. That's why Square bought them.

I mean honestly.. what good games did Square make besides the early FF games? I honestly can't think of any off the top of my head. Okay I'm being a little harsh, there were a few others. Their only option was to expand and buy up other companies, I think they knew FF was going to dry up, just as all franchises eventually do.

But anyways, trailers should never be trusted, especially for video games. Trailers never show anything significant.

super mario rpg was a square game it was the best mario game ever (even though this is ff thread :P)

Haven't been able to judge jack shit from the video footage for a long time now.

Final Fantasy's downfall started with 7, don't get me wrong, 7 was still a great game.. However that was the turning point where they really started to care more about graphics than anything else, it only grew worse from there.

I personally turned my back on the series after being disappointed with 9, disgusted with X and absolutely horrified by that steaming pile of shit X-2.

Graphic's are nice...sure, however not at the expense of story & gameplay, i'd rather play one which looks like shit and has a great story and excellent game mechanics than one which makes for great eye-candy and nothing else.

TL;DR

FF died a very long time ago.

It's still perfectly fine playing the older ones though, they're still great games and always will be great games.
