The stories of the FF games arent connected at all so only thing you wont pick up on are little things like Shiva being in a lot of the previous games, reoccuring monsters and names of reoccuring chars (Biggs and Wedge...I'll be disappointed if they arent in the game in some form lol....oh and Cid)

Its damn near impossible for someone to go back and respect the games as we did when we first played them. Too much has changed in gaming and they will automatically see the gfx and be dissapointed. If you missed the old ones when they first came out you might as well no go back and lpay them. There is no nostalgia value and you wont respect them the way we do no matter what.

play some others first for sure

VII and X would be ideal, but VIII is my favorite
