Starting up FF-8 again, beat it about 5 years ago with a lot of help from a friend.

One thing I never really understood was the card game.

I have been told that it is a very important part of the game..

Is this true?

In essence, yes. Because through the cardgame you can get good junction magic and hit for about 3k with squall. (100 Tornado's junctioned to strenght. These are gotten by winning the Abyss Worm card, cardmod it into 1 windmill, which refines to 20 tornado's through Quezacotl's refine wind (IIRC) mag ability)

You can complete the game without using cardmod though.

If you have any questions regarding FFVIII, feel free to contact me.

A tip, when Cid gives you the mystical lamp for Diablos, challange him to a cardgame and win Seifer from him. If you want to do this on disc3 it's going to be annoying due to the retarded rules in edea's house.

I also heard that the actual people cards are the good ones.

Yes, they are. Though I suggest you play cardgames at the start 'till you have atleast 5 Abyss Worms (1 refines into 1 windmill, 1 windmill refines into 20 tornado's (Best magic to junction to strenght)) and 20 elnoyle cards (10 refine into an energy crystal, 1 energy crystal refines into 10 pulse ammo. You need 12 for the Lionheart) and some other decent magic.

Oh and a word of advice, the lower level you are the easier the bosses are. A boss' stats increase much more than yours when you level up.
