I ship out to ARMY Boot Camp on December 30th. I got about 10 more hours of sidequests left on FF7, and then I have the option to do FF8 or FF9. I don't know which one to do, although I'm one of few who think FF8 is the best one.

FF8 or FF9?

Do neither, if you're going off to boot camp make the most of your time, there are better games and you've probably already beaten all of the FF ones anyways, so try something you haven't before.

Tales of Phantasia for SNES, Breath of Fire III for PSX, Star Ocean 2 for PSX, Xenogears, Lufia 2 for SNES.. Shining Force 2 (Sega Genesis), Tactics Ogre or Disgaea if you enjoy strategy RPG's, all good choices

There are lots more, but some of the others i'd list are rare and might be too hard for you to acquire. None of the games listed above should disappoint though, they are each at least on par with FF7

my first ff i ever played was 8...and i loved that game. i really havent ever been able to try any rpgs made before ff8...ive never owned an snes or sega or any of that...how about chrono trigger? ive heard from millions that chrono trigger is great

i played a game called legend of legaia...that game was cool...never beat it though

Legend of Legaia is ok, has a lot of flaws in gameplay but the concept it still fun, and the story is a bit silly, but it works out to be a mediocre game, certainly playable.

Chrono Trigger is also good, it is for SNES as well, but it is a fairly short game, beatable in under 20 hours without much difficulty, I prefer Lufia 2, Tales of Phantasia, and FF6 on the SNES, and Breath of Fire 2, FF5, and 7th Saga are some other good SNES choices as well; it's possible to play any old SNES / Genesis games on your computer. It is the ONLY way to play Final Fantasy V and Tales of Phantasia as they were originally intended (as SNES games they were only released in Japan, it wasn't until many years later that they were remade and released on handhelds and the likes)
