Really, now the Sony playstation has less exclusive games than it has features, which really isnt that many at all.
i hate myself for saying this, but i'm considering getting a xbox, especially after seeing the new Gran Turismo, it's just arcade mode from the older games in the series :S

i hope M$ gets tekken and metal gear too.

Any reasons you can think of not to boycut sony?(i have one of their drm mp3 players, this isnt helping on my loyalty)

Why would you boycott Sony and / or really care all that much?

And since when does one game series that mostly profits in Japan break an entire company? There are other, much better games than Final Fantasy games; FF did not make the Playstation, be it PS1, 2 or 3, popular. Rather, the Playstation made Final Fantasy popular. Put credit where credit is due; all Squaresoft is doing is trying to squeeze more money out of the series, which is exactly what they have done with all the spinoff of FF7 and movies and whatnot.

GT is not an arcade mode, not 5... prologue was just a demo to show what GT5 will be.

Also, if you buy a 360 note you'll probably end up swapping 4-6 discs if SquareEnix keeps it's game as massive as they wanted to (for BluRay players).

M$ might someday get MGS4 but as far as I know they'd have to remake MGS4 so that's probably going to be a year + before it comes out.

You need to look at Sony's game lineup as a whole and think what best suits you, but I would like to point out one thing that people keep forgetting.

Comparing PS3 launch to PS2 launch, PS3 is outselling the PS2, as well has more games and exclusives than the PS2 did at this time, and more recently the PS3 is still outselling the 360 on a month/month basis when you compare both consoles at the same point in their life. PS3 is still on an upswing with a few unannounced titles being worked on, a few decent multiplatform RPGS, a few GOOD exclusive RPGS, a whole whack of exclusive FPS with creative and innovative content (well Resistance has been done, but you know).

I think the NES made FF what it is today, the PSX/PS2 just gave it more bite in NA, FF1/2/3/4/5/6 were all fun and generally large/innovative for their time.

Nah because FF today has too little in common with FF1 through FF6, even FF9 which was basically a carbon copy of FF6 with elements of the other FF's thrown in was too different. For better or for worse, FF7 started the trend of emphasizing cutscenes and commercial / mass appeal. I personally think that this trend has ruined the series, but the general public eats it up. Without the Playstation's technology, they never would have been able to put the emphasis on graphics and cutscenes / cgi, which have consistantly been the major selling point of the new games, making them flashy and appealing to the casual gamer, making Final Fantasy more in line with games like Mario and Zelda.

IF it wasn't for addicting and hooking the FF series was on the NES/SNES we wouldn't have the new version of FF biggrin.gif

xD they weren't all that popular in the US, thusly why 3 of the games were never released, FF7 had the american appeal to get the series rolling more, though I have never thought very highly of 7

i'am relieved to hear GT prologue is not the real thing, it's one of my favorite games! smile.gif
and who cares about disc swapping, it didnt bother me much in ff7?

and thats the thing, i dont like console shooters, they're slow and unwieldy, i prefer playing fps on pc.

and i dont know about the NTSC version, but PAL certainly wont play my ps2 games

i was really just in a dark place is all, after seeing what i thought was GT5 and hearing that a lot of the games i was interested in was being released for xbox, and all the negativity around the ps3, this topic was really more about confirming my faith in sony than proclaiming that the xbox 360 was a better console ^^

the lacking backwards compatibility is really annoying tho, and the price is still inhuman, and i hear complaints all the time about how shitty the online gaming support, and the support for downloadable add-ons are, and how great they are on xbox.

decoppel i was actually VERY surprised to learn that it does better than the ps2 did, maybe i'm just getting crowded in negative buzz?

Yeah, your getting caught up in the negative stereotype for the PS3.

It's online is actually not bad, it's quite fast, the only issue I had with it was not being able to respond to messages in game but the latest patch fixed that.

The price is not inhuman, the 40GB is being pushed out and replaced by an 80GB (version of the 40GB) for 399.99, which for the future proof blu-ray player and nexgen console is actually more than fair.

The hate mostly comes from x-box owners / fans. You don't hear them praising their own system's 30% complete failure rate, do ya? They estimate nearly 1 in 3 x-box's will red ring within a couple years.

Basically, Wii is good for kids, and for people who like party games / having kinda.. good ol' fun. Xbox is kinda now a FPS game system, frat boy sorta console, ie mostly good multiplayer, while PS is good for single player, RPG's, and has the best game contracts. Square releasing one FF on x-box doesn't mean they are losing the support, nor is it really all that big of a deal, the people who play FF games own Playstation systems, it's as simple as that. Plus a ton of their revenue is from Japan and the Japanese don't like the X-Box at all

e: The prices aren't all that high; the original Playstation 1 was like $300 when it first came out, and if you adjusted that for inflation, it would probably be closer to 400+ by now

i can still get a xbox 360 cheaper with a bootchip included, and i have no need for a bluray drive, i want to play games not watch movies ^^
