I didn't much care for FFT, it really lacked originality. I like Disgaea a lot more, it brings so much more to the whole genre, but maintains a fun and quirky story / cast. Worker 8 was cool though

well i played and beat both of the games and i can say i liked FFT better because i liked the JP

fft rapes hard, i played it like 20 times now, i did solo with ramza, i like the squire/thief set updual excaliburs for ubar spd and dmg. but i also soloed the whole game with him as thief and only thief no other class skills, much tougher

I liked the JP thing, but I think it made certain things a bit too easy. The game that FFT is a copy / clone of, Tactics Ogre, required certain stats and character alignment in order to get certain classes (and some special case things as well), I like the challenge in that, and the extra strategy it puts into play. You have to build your characters towards a class, and be very careful with their alignment and how it changes. It also limits you, whereas in FFT any character can basically do / become anything.

I have never been a big fan at all of games that homogenize, and that has been one of my biggest complaints about Final Fantasy ever since FF7 was released. They like to make it so that every character can do everything or be everything, to the point where it really doesn't matter who you use (though at least in FFT the classes all have advantages and disadvantages)

Probably my favorite Final Fantasy game ever made. So many hours put into getting cloud leveled up to 99. So many hours having every special character mastering every class and skill. And then...I lose my memory card when I moved. :'[

Lacked originality? For it's time final fantasy tactics was very original, and the storyline is second to none. Disgaea pales in comparison to such an amazing game like final fantasy tactics. The character customization in Disgaea is cool, if you don't mind spending countless hours working on geo stone puzzles and trudging through ridiculously repetitive item levels. Disgaea has a much too childish feel for me, the storyline is lacking, and the characters are for the most part, moronic.

FFT wasn't original at all, it's a clone, the story is the only thing it really has going for it and that story is not as you say second to none, it's cliche. Still a fun game, but it wasn't anything new, whereas Disgaea brought some cool new things into the genre. I could put maybe 50 hours into FFT, Disgaea easily 100+
