So since I don't keep up with news and such too much what exactly is the difference between XII and VS XII?

They both take place in the same universe, but are not directly related to one another.

So instead of one game we're getting two? Or is this like one is the US version and the other is International?

Actually its 3 games known as the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy XIII - PS3
Final Fantasy Agito XIII - Mobile game, so don't expect a U.S. release unless we can catch up on the cell phone technology
Final Fantasy Versus XIII - PS3

I can guarantee the other 2 will be release here in the U.S.
