It's not very good, if you've played other MMORPGs think of the grinding, then multiple that by about 5. It's got some really cool features, they just made it too much of a grind fest/time sink.

Maybe if your partys suck, lol. I find it overall time consuming also. It's ok playwise, graphics are a bit outdated though. I give it a 6/10.

It's okay, FF IX is much better.

Not a good idea to put an sequencal FF part of the series as an online game. If they wanted to "test" how the results would come out, they should have made a side FF (like they did with the Gameboy versions or MQ) for an idea like that.

it's a great game

I played FFXI for 3yrs, and what I can say about it is.. it can be very addicting, the leveling process is very slow up from 10 to about 50 considering you have the expansions for the newer areas but other than that, end-game can be fun but can also be quiet boring, like any game. Overall, if you're looking for a game to play and have a lot of time on your hands then
FFXI is a good choice, if you have 3hrs a week then it's probably not the game for you.

People tend to lean towards World of Warcraft as there choice of MMO, but I have played both, in my opinion.. WoW has more to offer if you're looking for solo content/not many play hours it also updates a little more fequently, but I honestly liked FFXI more. Wow might have quests you can do to level up but its the same quest over and over, and it honestly feels like a bigger grind to get 70 in Warcraft then it does 75 in FFXI. It is much easier to make friends in FFXI then it is in Warcraft as well, main reason is because, FFXI has hardly any solo content, your basically forced to make friends and join groups, weather its quests, missions, leveling up, or boss fights. In Warcraft, you can solo you're way to 70 without grouping once, you can obtain gear easily via pvp weathers its world pvp or BG. Pretty much only groups you need to join are end game raids/instances and arena. Another downside to FFXI is also it can be quiet hard to make money, and most of the gear comes from you're own pocket, unlike warcraft, but still if you have the time FFXI could be a lot of fun.

FFXI is great, I just stopped a month ago because I need to work on my academic >.>

If you have a lot of free time and plan to spend much of it on a game, then it's your choice.
If you don['t have much time, don't get it.

This game requires a lot of patience and time.

You can't solo to lvl 75 like in WoW (Except for 2 jobs: Blue Mage and Beastmaster, but those are advanced jobs), you need to find parties to level. Oh and also, quests don't give exp reward like in much MMORPG, which is a good side because it takes more time leveling and you just don't have to grind/quest all time
