how could anyone like the emo atmosphere of 8?

One character being emo (not according to me) gives the whole game an "emo atmosphere"? It seems to me like you were focusing on Squall too much and not the actual game itself. What's ironic is that you have two of the most emo characters in an anime in your sig/avatar.

I can't really put my finger on the exact atmosphere of the game, but emo certainly isn't a word I'd use to describe it. It was one of the few Final Fantasy games where I felt I was actually involved in the events of it, rather than a spectator with no connection to them whatsoever. I guess immersive is the word. It's hard to see sitting here how the game can be immersive at all (with a floating "garden", a futuristic city, and a castle in the future), but it does feel like that when I play it for some reason.

8 is by far my favourite final fantasy followed closely by probably 6 / 4 and 1 7 and 9 I would rate right near the bottom of the ladder just below 10 personally my first FF I ever played was 4 *The real 4 cecil / kain* before 7 was released ... 7 has its high points and 1-2 chars I liked but by far has always been a disappointing game to me how ever I do agree with a previous poster FF8 was indeed and easy game but so were all of them bar maybe the *original versions* of 1-2 without going into challenge games *ie minimum level / no equipment upgrades / whatever* how ever each to their own all the FF games were great imo

FF9 has my vote. Had great characters and story, while paying homage to the older final fantasy's style.

FF7 ist the best, after comes FF10 and FF9 then FF8

let me guess, youve never played anything before 7, and 7 was the first one you ever played

ya i played ff4, 6 and 1 before i ever played ff7, and ff4 is my favorite, but i enjoyed the story so much in ff7, it made my #2. my 3rd favorite is probably ff1, i dont care what anyone says, ff1 was an epic game. ff9 is definatly not a favorite, but was still kinda fun, but ya at the bottem for me aswell. and all final fantasy's are easy, but theyre played for the fun of the story

edit: ff8 is probably my 5th fav behind ff6. and i didnt care for 10 and 12 at all(not saying theyre bad games, i just didnt personally like them)



ff7 was overrated, but still a ground breaking game. just doesnt have all the elements to be labelled "the best game ever"

and ff7 by no means had the best characters, it has the best story line. imo ff4 had the best characters maybe even 6
