I found out about the release of this game 2-3 months ago. I signed up for the Phase 4 Beta really eager to play. I enjoyed the beta and granted there were many problems. I was thinking to myself this is only the beta and it should get better come release and more. Now that all that have passed, I don't see them putting any effort towards making this game a better playing experience for people who loves the FF series. My interest in playing this game is slowly dying because of the very little effort they put.
I played from Alpha 1.0 pre-release to now, so you could say I've been around the block with FFXIV. The saddest part is that this game has so much potential. It has the capacity to be a truly dominant MMO, but it is held back by a pathetic excuse for a management team. I have never touched WoW, and can't stand the game but you can just instantly see the difference between a true heavy hitting MMO, and a b-class MMO like FFXIV.
Around 2005, Square-Enix's previous MMO, FFXI had almost 600,000 active subscribers. During the year after release of FFXIV 1.0 they had between 9,000-15,000 active subscribers. Which is just pathetic. With this horrible re-launch, and the obvious lack of ability to quickly re-route the issues is going to drive players away. I wanted so badly for this game to become a champ on the MMO market and possibly rise up to the upper ranks, but after this it doesn't look good. Granted, they could turn this around and fix the servers and push marketing out to really bring people back but who knows.
Outside of server issues, I play on Hyperion. I'm not pro I only have GLA/CNJ @ 50. But I see very very little end-game fun. Main story line is an absolute joke. HEY GO KILL IFRIT-- EPIC BATTLE --> NOW GO FEED CHOCOBOS AND RUN ACROSS 3 ENTIRE ZONES AND CATER FOOD TO A PARTY. Game sucks, server sucks, good times have been had by all.
