i sold my ff7 game for 150 dolla then bought another copy brand new for 40

I like FF8 best for gameplay. FF7 was alright overall, and FF9 was shit but I liked the characters. FFX I got bored at Bevelle passage or something so I put it in the bin. But eh. . . on topic, I personally wouldn't say 7 is the best and I also find that 99% of people I've discussed Final Fantasy with have said omg ff7 is da bstest!!!111, which would give me another reason to class 8 above it (in my books that is).

after reading the ridiculously long post i stopped reading the rest of the thread and would like to say... u point out all the flaws of the game... but u forget that this was 10 years ago... and in that time those "flaws" weren't flaws... thats how all games were... compare any game right now such as Halo I when it first came out (not right now) how good the game was... now compare FF VII when it first came out (not right now) how good the game was... do the same thing for every game... and u'll realize that FF VII completely destroys every game on being the best for when it came out... thats y i think it is the best game of all time...

btw... beat the game w/o ever chainging weapons and w/o using materia... i dare u, bet u won't get far at all lol

*edit* one last thing, i have also played most rpgs out there... including the orig one for ps... damn forgot the name of it... and FF VII deff tops them all... i think Legend of Dragoons comes next for it's awsome battle system, can't remember the story line lol but i believe it was pretty good cuz i think mmorpgs w/o a good story line sux

Lol.. dude, the whole "yeah it's fucked up BUT 10 YEARS AGO IT WAS THE BESTEST EVER!!!11!1" arguement is stale and stupid. Every game ever made is made within the context of it's time. FF7 wasn't THAT good for the time, i'm sick of hearing that it was when it wasn't, and I bought it the day it came out in the US, and remember it quite well. FF6 came out years before, so it's even older then FF7, and is a better game, so shouldn't that be 'the best game of all time' within the context of the time?

Because if you want to go with "for the time" arguements, Pong beats all other games hands down. So worship Pong. FF7 is overrated now, and was overrated then, and will always be overrated.

It is a highly overrated game and actually some of the earlyer games in the series are actually just as good.

Imo Final Fantasy IV, V and VI are the construction stones for Final Fantasy VII

FF7 just wasn't that influential, the only thing it brought to the table that was new / special was cgi cutscenes, and cgi cutscenes have kind of ruined RPG's, turning them more into movies where the graphics are more important than anything else. FF7's gameplay graphics were awful, 2D polygon sprites that have a few extra directions to them but lack detail to a severe degree, Virtua Fighter practically looks better. They were clever in using perspective to make it seem 3D, but that's about it.
