hmm i cant find the collectors at ebgames.com but i looked at other websites and it says it comes with:

how much is it like 70? not worth it to me

I highly doubt that your monitor does not have a S-Video input.
If playing PS2 games is all you are after then it will be more cost efficient to just buy a A/V&S-Video PS2 cable over a backward compatible PS3.

No s-video input; only free input is a DVI port, also have hdmi and vga inputs which are being used.

There are a couple of games I'd like to play on the ps3, but not enough to make me want to buy one. Being able to play my old ps2 games would probably push me the rest of the way.
