It wasn't a very good game. Compared to other Final Fantasy games, I think this one is near the bottom.

I'll state my reasons...

The battle system is boring, and very dull. With the right gambits, you pretty much just have to use your analog sticks to get through the game, with out ever having to put in a single command.

The story line wasn't very great. I felt very unimportant and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. It was very predictable.

The characters were not very great as well, Bausch was the only interesting character. Everyone else had very weak, or barely any back story. I mean the biggest twist in the whole game was when Balthier admitted he was a Judge. Which wasn't very great.

No world map, once again, just like in part 10. There is no world map. I really enjoy the whole "world map" feel to a rpg. Maybe it's to old school now or something.

Not much for secrets or "Ultimate Optional Bosses" The ones that were there were not very ultimate. Once again, with the right gambit set up you easily dominate everything.

Theres much more, but those are pretty much the top 5 reasons. I seriously breezed through this game, once I got the Zodiac Spear at level 30.

Either way, it's a Final Fantasy. It's worth playing. It wasn't a horrible game. But just stacking it up to other Final Fantasy games it comes out very poor.

didnt like the story much kinda boring and the protagonist in this one felt really insignificant, but the game play was awesome for me.

Played FF1-12.

I've played FFs1-6 on console simulators, and I own 7,8,9,10,10-2,11 (tried it for about 2 months couldn't take the grind but I hear endgame was pretty exciting), and 12.

12 is probably in my top 3 between all of them.

But you can see from the thread that this is a love/hate relationship. You either really like this one or you really hate it, either way as a true Final Fantasy fan I think it's not a question or whether you should get it... But whether you want to find out where Squenix is taking the series and you may find along the way that you like it better than you originally thought.

As all FFs... The plot isn't epic or elaborate to the point of it being some fantastic novel but it keeps the momentum going till the end and that's enough. Wasn't a fan of the battle system until I found out more about gambits and could automate a lot of processes while also manually switching between characters to carry on specific tasks that gambits couldn't achieve.

Overall... Yes you can use gambits to auto fight, but if you want to be the best you can't rely on gambits alone, and the better it of gambits doesn't roll around till later in the game. You don't start off being able to auto attack your way through the game, very much the opposite. The world is semi-free-open, areas are zoned but you can mostly run to high level places early on... Example is running to the Necrohol of Nabudis very early in the game to attain the Zodiac Spear (one of the most powerful weapons in the game).

Bottom Line: Get it.

is it worth buying/playing?

yessir.

1. Cheap (not the main reason)
2. Decent story (same as above)
3. Lots of opt. quests (i.e. monster hunting and collecting the trophies, which will take houuuuursss)
4. Gameplay (i like the no-random-encounter battles, you just run up to whatever you wanna kill, plus it's just flatout fun stuff)
5. Gameplay length (to get the Knights of the Round Rank is a good 120+ hours)
6. To those saying, "the game plays itself", just dont use the Gambit system?

A negative i found was to reach the end of the game at a relatively low level, and beat the final boss relatively easily at my low levels.
The monsters you hunt are much more difficult than the final boss which is dissatisfying.

Not a pos/neg statement, but the final monster you hunt will take HOURS to kill. Lol, something that really caught my attention that i thought i'd throw out there.

Arbitrary ranks included only to increase play time (much like ludacris bosses with a billion hp) are not a good thing biggrin.gif
