I'm not a venomous FF7 hater, nor do I even think that it's a weak game, I think it's a pretty decent game.

I'm just sick of everyone thinking that it's the greatest game ever freaking created, that every aspect of it is perfect, that there aren't cliche aspects and flaws to it, and that there aren't better games out there. People who can barely remember 1997 say that FF7's graphics were WAY ahead and insane "for the time", when that tag is just stuck on after the fact by people who fondly remember their first RPG as looking really cool. The CG scenes might have been excellent, but if you consider that Ocarina of Time came out the following year, the gameplay graphics just weren't 'revolutionary'. They aren't even 3D,they were just given a 3D look through a fixed angled perspective.

It's a fun game, I don't hate it.. I just hate how people praise it when there are better games out there. And. OMG. Some of them AREN'T made by Squaresoft! D:D:D:

You still haven't given me a good argument on why ff7 isn't shit.

ff7 was the most groundbreaking game for its time taking full advantage of the ps1
great graphics story and battle system.. easily the best rpg on the ps1 and one of the best period

Suikoden 2 shits all over FF7 and just about every other game out there... sorry lol, FF7 is not the best PS1 RPG. Suikoden 1 beats it too.

FF7 doesn't have a good battle system, the graphics might have been something different than what was traditional for RPG's at the time, but that doesn't give it enough points to make it the best on PS by any means. Breath of Fire 3 was better, both PS1 Suikodens (though they are rare as hell), Chrono Cross had some very good points, Xenogears was bitchin, Star Ocean 2 was great, based off of the Tales of Phantasia (SNES) system and improved upon..

It didn't take anywhere near full advantage of the PS1. It had MIDI sound, when it is a CD format game that could easily have supported MUCH better music (Chrono Cross for example). The CG scenes were nice but the rest was inconsistant. If it were truly 3D it would have been more groundbreaking.

Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time were probably the most groundbreaking games for their time, Mario being the same year as FF7, and Zelda the year after. PS wise, Descent and Resident Evil broke a lot more ground.

Obviously you haven't played very many games or even just RPG's on the PS1 if you think FF7 is the best there is.

But that's a good thing for you, you have a lot to see and have fun with Try any of the titles I listed, they are all very good.

Mario 64 is trash older titles were better:
Super Mario Brothers
Super Mario Brothers 3
Super Mario World
Yoshi Island

I didn't like it so much but it was pretty amazing for when it came out. N64 lost the battle against Playstation due to higher cartridge production costs (preventing multi cartridge games for more data and really limiting things) and a lack of strong 3rd party titles.. but it's kind of a shame that happened.

Though more of a shame is that Sega was the first to put out almost EVERY new innovation in gaming only to be reamed completely in the market by being too early with them.
