thats often the case when it was their first final fantasy to play, and then just have a hard time giving old ones a chance.
personally i rarely find people who played 1-9 before 10, and had 10 as a favorite, or even 12 or 13 for that matter. (yes i know some, but i see this more often than not)

i got final fantasy 7 back when i was like 8 or 9...then got ffx a little after it came out, and i found X to be amazing...not to say i didn't like 7, because i did..but it is certainly overhyped...
it's a great game but i feel like most people that say it's their favorite force it to be their favorite based on the following behind it.
working through 7 again, then on to 8 and 9...currently working on x as well =p
