I felt FFXIII was kinda tedious until the later chapters where you had more of a free roam, then i had a blast.  Nevertheless i beat the game 100%.

i really have to respectfully disagree. the other final fantasies were much more tedious. the battle system was constantly adapting and building on previous elements. you also were having to change your characters frequently. the game seemed to push away from the necessity of leveling in one spot for hours, and focused on ones ability to strategize with limited resources. these translated in a relative inability to become too over powered.

i absolutely hated ff13 at first since it was so different from the others. but i read a review and someone really put it into perspective.

from that time i stopped focusing on the lack of free roam and got immersed into the environment, story line and the evolving battle system.

i'm a die hard final fantasy 13 fan now :D

only thing i disliked about this game was that there was no towns to actually visit like traditional rpg games, if you notice, free roaming is becoming less and less as well as airship flying, which also annoyed the crap out of me in this game, grand pulse was nice because it was like a world map, but takes forever to walk from one place to another, ya sure chocobos are there, but they aren't your pet, gotta go find them walking around too........other than that game was great and presents strategy i assume, i liked the idea of post game.....although requires you to put a bazillion hours after the game to get rich to buy and upgrade shit

Cannot return back to an area after leaving = Missed items, quests, ect.
Rushed game lacks true depth.
Bought for almost 50 bucks, trades for 25 :(

It wasn't bad... but it wasn't great.

I usually see people saying "OMG BLITZBALL OWNS"

I hated it.

You mean 8-bit days. And I think that 13 was just Square's little test with a new engine. I'm really LF to 13 versus, it seems to have the Flare,The story, and the 1 thing that really made 13 bad: Sidequests/mini-games.

I've spent about 100+ hours on ff13. About 60 more hours than ff12 and about 20 more hours than 10 (wish I never borrowed the game to someone I was dating...never got it back).

The takes out of FF13:
-Battle System: Amazingly fast and really uses strategy. Loved the usage of spells and skills (the auto's)

-Graphics: Just amazing. Here is a game there is quasi-movie gameplay style graphics

-Missions: These are fun and really challenging

-Item/Weapon-exp: This system works really well, actually surprisingly well. Gil has more value and getting those treasure chests become key and worth the 100 additional steps

-Character Development: At the beginning most of the characters (hope, snow, vanille, and sazh) were difficult to relate with, but as the chapters go on you start to understand them and their connections

The Leaves of FF13:
-Story: Like most ff games you are usually just thrown into the story. This was a very complex and convoluted story from start to end. Very little makes sense about the Fal'ce, Humans and Maker

-Singularity of interaction: Agreed, its an ff game... You need to be able to interact with people. Though this game does a good job of following through with the fact that you are i'ce and no one wants anything to do with you. However, the only
people you get to talk to are the dorks in edenhall, which are just complaining. Makes you feel very alone throughout the game

-Linear story/side quest: Not much of a side quest. This has a double edged sword effect: 1) its great for people that are looking for something that isn't so involving (as you get older you have less time to spend on games, so ff rpgs give me the worries of "omg I have to do everything..." 2) There really isn't much to do in the game during the story mode, which in itself is sad. Also, WTF WHERE IS MY AIRSHIP!!!!??!!!!

-Summons/Ediolons: Really they should have never made the transformer movies... One the transformers were so complex that you couldn't follow their transformations. Oh and about the ediolons... really you need to ride them...Car and bike?!? The only ones that made sense were Bahamut and Odin. Alexander and Hectorwhatever were pretty cool.

Overall this endgame is more like Shadow of Colossus than your traditional ff game. This being said, I will say this again. This game made me want to see a HD remake of ff3/6 and ff7, which this games battle system.
