If we're gonna include summons, villains and what not, I'd say my favorite would be FFVIII's Shiva.

Overall, I'd say Vivi from FFIX is my favourite character. Other honourable mentions: Beatrix, Squall, Auron, Cecil, Kain, Galuf

Best villain...probably Kuja from FFIX (IX again ). Other honourable mentions: Gilgamesh (both FFV and FFXII), Ultros, Ultimecia, Exdeath, Seymour

Best summon...Bahamut probably. Others: Anima, Ark, Griever (kind of), Gilgamesh (FFVIII)

and I do have to give you that Haiken ^^ as a boy of "that" age at the time I found that to be rather awesome when I first started using her ^^

Idk why but I always had a soft spot for my very first guardian Quezacotal (or something similar its been a LONG time) as far as ff8 only summons go =P

She looks more...human in FFX. In FFVIII, she looks quite weird. The graphics also aren't as good as FFX's, but that's to be expected.

Personally, from the design standpoint, I know for certain that sex sells; sure, Shiva in Final Fantasy VIII looks less human, but I feel that she represented the aspect of ice, pure and unadulterated, better than her Final Fantasy X incarnation in appearance.

I also liked Siren, but never as much as Shiva, mostly because Siren's functionality was low compared to Shiva's.
