I myself have invested several hundreds of hours into Final Fantasy.
FF6 Was by far more enjoyable than 7. FF7 Is far over-rated imho although everyone is entitled to their own opinion (No matter how wrong they may be).
It gets tiresome and personally i found it hard to play through the game a second time, but whatever ~~ most people would object to me saying that FF6 or FF8 are better and the mahority say that 7 is amazing so play through it by all means but it would be better to invest your time into one of the other games imho.

Its a great game, personally i enjoin 8 more. Everyone just jumped on the ff7 bandwagon because it was rated #1.
