9. It's not only a great game, but it's also the truest to the FF franchise, combining elements from the old school first 6 games, with some of the freshened elements that made a success out of 7 and 8 (and later 10).

I think it's the best one to start off with, as it will give you an accurate approach to what you can expect out of the majority of FF Square games.

I think it's on steam... if not then it can be easily emulated :P

didnt like ff8 that much
hated playing with laguna

the rest of the games is very good though :)

terrible advice

the logic in this thread for bashing 8 seems incredibly arbitrary and subjective. your best bet would be to roll the dice with 7, 8, 9 or 10. 7 and 8 having a more modern atmosphere and 9/10 being more "fantasy," although 10 has plenty of modern influence in its own right.
