Actually I have played Rift and its pretty active depending on what server your on. Just like every MMO including WoW.
Also from years of gaming and forums I have found out one thing.
MMO players who started off with WoW only want WoW mechanics in any other MMo's they play. They do not want a change. Same with Diablo 2 players and Rpgs.
Then there are people who try out new MMo's for less then an month and either call it a clone or not close enough to WoW. MMO's aren't meant to be played for only a Month. Come on now.............
Your right though there is no new crazy mechanic besides the new crafting system.
I personally love that I can have every class on one character. That right there is $$$$ to me. Rift offered decent multiclassing as well.
In no way shape or form am I saying FFXIV is a Greatgame, but it is definitely a Good game.
Also if your someone who honestly played WoW or any MMO from near the start you would know that most MMO's start out the same way. Only time will tell whether the game will be great or not.
I never played SWTOR by the way. Hype wasn't nearly enough for me and I put in at least 48 hours of game play into Knights of the Old Republic on Xbox playing both evil / good story line. Also I played Wow Vanilla and Rift Beta from start - going F2p.
Its not that i give up, its just i feel pain when i log in.. im bored , i find PVE for the most part pretty dull , my FC with people are well into coil and have offered to involve me but i cant even be bothered its just not my thing really .. no different then any other raiding ever..
The multiclass system is just not impressive i feel , oh i can take a few skills from spots , its pretty eh.. yes it offers some great stuff as a warrior tank lvl 22 lancer offers invigorate which is a key skill i find to have as a tank .. but really its just a few skills more that just dont offer much in the way of "entertainment value" .
I suppose my first big mmorpg was WoW but i have invested more time into RIFT i would say. Being able to lvl through that game the whole way 10- 50 - 60 through PVP was amazing. I didnt have to do a single quest till pvp daily s started at max lvl. I could just codex my heart out and be happy as ever. That was a significant change from WoW for me and kept me playing RIFT + of course the soul system. I was never bored, i felt i had all the customization in the world. Once again in with FF you can customize a few skills to slot in... its pretty weak coming from all these years of RIFT and considering even WoW started with soul trees i find the customization of FF to be dismal to nothing.
ISO some dramatic changes in the mmorpg world ------------------> Twitch combat with WoWs budget and rifts soul design hah sounds like a balancing nightmare ..... but gawd id be in haven. Oh with full PVP route vs PVE .......... MMMMMMMMMM
PS: im comparing rifts pop compared to what it was.. its so low.. they had to shut down so many servers .. Seastone Is the last fun server

.... unless you are on at the most peak times the population sucks.
Rift was nice though i forgot i was on auto resub and it resubed for 6 months this oct 2nd .. took 10 minutes on a support ticket and they refunded me the 60 bucks

All rift cares about now it seems is there damn cash shop
