Every time an FF XIII argument ensues, an innocent kitten dies. The demo was pretty badass, I'll be too busy playing XIII-2 to hop on Jsp and debate how badly its predecessor flopped with "fans."

Just because you can read that a -TITLE- was highly anticipated doesn't mean it was a success in the long run. Go back and look @ those sales. Yes it sold quite well, but they were single/secondary day type of sells in which the title kept it anticipated for so long it was a mad rush to be bought. Sorry to say but after so long, it was reported in many mags and even on G4 that 13 flopped with the fans. :/

sales are also unreliable because many people had their PS1s and PS2s chipped and didn't buy orginal games; it hasn't been like that with the PS3

the game only flopped with the vocal kids that infest the internet (cause thats all you hear).

only the failures who want turn RPG (probably the same kids who played with "wait" on ATB games) say they didnt like it.

Going to assume you are not referring to me because that's not even what my point was about in my above post. I as well will agree with you on the "wait" for ATB, but it's been spoken not only by LONG term fans but as well as some actual developers as well (from Square in multiple mags/online articles) that some feel that the games gameplay/story/other ingame systems are starting to just be a bit more hassling than previously thought for players abroad.

It was on multiple platforms...

And it was an anticipated game, Also one of the very few JRPG's on new gen consoles.

I guarantee you, if 13-2 is subpar it will have no where NEAR the sales.

People bought 13 on name alone, won't make that mistake twice. They will be waiting for PROPER reviews.

As for the rest of your rant, The point of a turn based RPG is the strategy, the intricities of a battle. A twisting legitimate story, An interesting engaging world, Not "Auto battle", Not a straight line and sure as hell not the ridiculous premise 13 was based on

Funny how many people think 13 was shit, even though it sold just as much as 10, more than 9, more than 12. Going by sales ratings, it's approximately 4th, behind 7, 8, and 10 respectively.

I'm sure most people who dump on the newest installments of the FF series are the same people who don't even have a taste for other modern JRPGs anymore.

See above. As for the modern JRPG's, Star Ocean was f*cking terrible. Even worse than 13 and that is saying something. But i've enjoyed Eternal Sonata, Enchanted Arms, Lost Odyssey, Even Blue Dragon. Xenoblades Chronicles was well above 9/10 I dump on a bad games because they are bad, No reason to get all fanboy about something or things won't change. I hope to Jebus 13-2 is good, But so far it looks like a Chrono Trigger rip off with the same boring story and characters from 13. If the battle system is the same or the linear aspects i won't even be giving it a chance.

I found Star Ocean 2 and The Last Hope to be incredible games. As far as XIII-2 goes, the demo was able to demonstrate multiple differences, both in gameplay and playable cast, in a matter of thirty minutes.

Oh gimme a break, none of the old FF games are even a challenge, and there is hardly any strategy to the battle systems. Old turn based games(with the exception of a few), are mainly just click attack every turn. With the exception of a few boss battles most of the time you are just clicking attack, or picking a magic/summon/whatever to use, the level of strategy in most regular turn based games is next to none. Most of the time you just grind until you're so high of a level that every battle is so easy that there is absolutely no strategy required for any major boss battle. I'd argue that games like 12 and 13 require more strategy than 7,8,9,etc.

And the notion that sales don't mean anything, or is skewed, is ridiculous. Who cares if the game was hyped, or if "fans" were let down. I guarantee you that there are more people who bought FF13 that don't consider themselves die hard fans of the franchise. And i'm sure that's a huge margin as well, die hard fans vs regular gamers. Also, XIII outsold XII by over a million. That's saying something because the PS2 is the most owned game console in the history of consoles, by a huge margin. There have been roughly 100 million more PS2's sold than PS3's. So, at the release time of XII, 3 times more people would have had the option to buy it compared to XIII. If XII was so horrible(I remember "fans" screaming that at the time), why would more people have bought XIII then? The notion that the FF franchise is going down the drain just makes no sense when you look at the numbers. Yes, maybe long time fans are getting upset, but numbers and statistics never lie. But get over it "fans", the RPG realm has changed, games like FF7 would fail in the current market.

Enjoy old school FF games, and enjoy the new ones. They are different games, the gaming market has changed, so you'll never get another game like the SNES/PS1 era FF games. Enjoy the new ones for what they are.
