The story is event-driven, not character-driven, which will feel very different to FF fans. I like the battle system. Not nearly as dull as the turn-based menu system in other FF's. It's not a game you can play for hours on end though. It becomes somewhat repetitive. Start dungeon, navigate dungeon, beat boss, leave dungeon, next dungeon. There is a much wider variety of enemies than in previous FF's, but Square-Enix used too many recolors. It's like an offline MMORPG, because you actually have to train.

What, you actually liked random battles? Play DragonQuest VIII; you will grow to loathe them soon enough.
