FF7 will always be my favorite as it was the first final fantasy game i ever played. Now i own them all and think ff9 is pretty damn good though. 7 is in my top 2

FF4 is the best FF clearly. It's battle system blows though, its only letddown. If it had ff7 or beyond battle system it would be wonders. Second best ff7, third ff8/9 in a tie and anything FFX or beyond is garbage. FFX just sucks, and so does all FF games beyond that

For me,

FF8 > FF9 > FF7 > FF6 > FF5 > FF12 > FF10 > FF4 > FF1

I haven't completed FF2, FF3, or FF10-2 yet.

Taking off my nostalgia glasses, I think that FF4 pales in comparison to most other FF games. The characters were great, but apart from that, it didn't really have any other redeeming features. The battle system was decent (it was the first time the ATB system had been used in an FF game). The ability system was too basic. The story was average (on its own). The number of good sidequests was extremely disappointing. It was great at the time it came out and I enjoyed it, but looking back on it now, the other games in the series blow it out of the water.

yea, the characters arent amazing but there is a couple of cool ones
Stories arent that bad (just sad that people think that a story will never beat FF7)
obviously better graphics but i doubt that matters to most fans.
tbh i think the newer games are getting better.
on a side note , people need to forget about FF7 , they wont make a remake nor will there be another story similar.
enjoy the old game and quit crying for squarenix to make a remake and completely ruin a game many to belive to be a classic.

I actually do agree with this even though FF7 is my favorite FF.

Being a gamer should be about having an open mind to any and all games and not get tunnel vision and think "OMG NO GAME WILL EVER TOP FF7" I defend FF7 against the people that out right trash it but I also dont support the blind fanboyism either lol.

FF10 and FF12 were GREAT I thought. I have high hopes for FF13
