I do think that ff7 is overrated but you can't deny its greatness, it had a great storyline (imo) and the game play was at least decent for its time, I think most of the people smashing on its game play forgets that it was the first ff games on the playstation and the first fully 3d game on the playstation even. I mean...for being the first game of its kind its amazing.

I'm not sure where you're getting greatness from. The story (man with amnesia must right his wrongs) is one that has appeared in both novels and JRPGs before and after it, and its gameplay system was significantly less innovative and deep compared to that of Final Fantasy VI.

haiken may i remind you of everyone has their opinions, example, you think ff8 is the best ff, many many many people would disagree with you, and vise versa with theirs, ect ect ect ect, ff7 was a game that appealed to a great variety of people, its story is what captured most people. but you seem to go beyond that and pick at everything wrong with it because you feel its overrated, which it is. and i understand why people thinking it's so great may frustrate you. but you cant let that get to you, ff7 will always be known as a great game no matter what

10 is the best by far.

WTF Tactics is the BEST but Final Fantasy VII is MY ALL TIME FAVORITE. Imo I loved all of the Final Fantasy Series but I've never played 11 or 12 yet... Sadly.

My point is that it's not a great game. Sure, it's good, but great? That's not what it is. And that irritates me.

well, to some people, and actually alot of people, it is a great game. you just look at it differently from others

I've been on this board touting FF7 as mediocre for a long time most just don't listen or think without the collective hive mind of "its popular so its the best".

As for Tactics, it was a very unoriginal game, essentially a straight up clone of TO but with different units / classes; the system is dumbed down from TO and made a bit more mainstream.

Its all a matter of opinion. Just because yours differs from the majority doesnt mean its better.

I think FF7 is a GREAT game.
