The first time I tryed playing it..I wanted to slit my wrists before the end of the first disc just due to the sheer bullshit characters minus vivi or whatever his name is.

Wow..i'm a poor vagrant child dbz character!
Wow I'm a dungeons and dragons Knight with no depth!
Wow I'm a fucking weird ass monster with a fucked up name!

...Pretty much how I saw it and the battles weren't all that fun eithier.

I just loved the characters, the fighting, the setup, the world, card game, puzzles

FF IX is the greatest :-)

I love FFIX too. The battles may be slower than most other FF games (by a small margin), but I seriously wouldn't let something so small put me off such a great game.

I'd say it's closer to your traditional Final Fantasy games (like FFIV). It doesn't try to do anything too complicated. It uses a simple ATB system. All the characters are unique (Zidane is your thief, Vivi is your Black Mage, Garnet/Dagger is your White Mage / Summoner, and so on). You learn abilities from items by gaining AP.

I really like the story and characters (Vivi FTW!).

The game world is pretty good. All towns/cities have their own distinct feel. The NPCs are great.

The game is definitely worth getting I'd say.

the cg scenes are amazing very clear imo yea the battle system is slow but it is hilarious in some parts

Yes, it's worth it.

The problem is, it starts off painfully slow and isn't very fun at all at the beginning. I am always so very reluctant to replay it because, while looking forward to the awesome 1/4 way and onward part, I know I have to endure the beginning which makes me want to claw my eyes out.

For that, I can imagine there are thousands of un-played ff9 copies collecting dust on people's shelves.

But it is an amazing game. It's reminiscent of FF6 (3 US) and earlier games in that each character is unique and has their own built-in job class.The music is fantastic too.

Just make sure to set it on fastest and active; no FF game is really "worth" it without those settings. (One reason why I hate FF10.)
