i can still get a xbox 360 cheaper with a bootchip included, and i have no need for a bluray drive, i want to play games not watch movies ^^

Playing games on Bluray typically means higher quality tongue.gif

Of course you can buy a 360 cheaper but factor in costs such as rechargable controller (unless you want to buy loads of batteries?), larger HD, XBL subscription, and your going to go over the PS3.

Khrushchev was the PS2 not 449.99 or something at release and for a year or so after?

As well, PS3 has major exclusive FPS to combat the theory that it's online is poorly developed.

Yeah and considering the PS2 is the best selling gaming console of all time, I don't think Sony is "fucked" whatsoever lol

FPS on console systems does totally blow though tbh, on any system, i'd much rather play on a computer than even Halo 1 or 2

But i'm not going to buy any of the new systems, i've played them and my brother has PS3, and it's fun and all but there are better things to spend money on if you realize that with any of the systems, you're talking $500 to get started then $50 per game, if you buy 10 games that's $1000; 20 games = $1500.. i'd much rather put that money towards say a boat or a motorcycle and go outside than have a shiny new game system.

For me it was an easier decision, I got a discount (thanks price matching) on my PS3, for 379.99 which was 429.99 in after taxes, it had what I needed besides and HDMi cable (19.99, thanks local retailer who isn't futureshop ROFL) and then I bought my games used with a 1$ warranty (Enchanted Arms 29.99, NFSC 29.99, Marvel 29.99) which gave me a large enough library for the first while, plus my friend owns a PS3 and he lends me his games he is done with, so that really works out to my advantage.

I used to agree about console FPS but with the constant changing in computer specification demands you cannot buy a budget, low end system and expect to run any new FPS' at decent settings, or atleast lag free.

One thing I will say, if the PS3 get's to 299.99 OR 349.99 before BluRay players become mainstream it's probably one of the biggest steals you can get for a console that doubles as a multimedia center, and atleast you have one in your proximity (your brother)

if they add keyboard and mouse support for the fps games i would go for it, you are so VERY right about budget pc's, with a little tweaking consoles could be desktop computers, why hasnt this happened yet?

and have either of you tried linux on the ps3?
would be kinda sweet if you could even run your pc games on it, or even run both the ps3os and linux at the same time, tabbing between both, tho i doubt that will happen ^^

I have seen lots of peoples Linux on PS3, however I am waiting until I upgrade my HD and using a dual boot configuration. The gaming support might be sketchy however.

I am thinking someday we will see keyboard/mouse support for games on a console but by that day consoles will be a full blown multimedia multipurpose system, which will be a substitute for a budget PC.

thats the silly thing, it already has a browser, support for linux, and no keyb/mouse support? wtf

well i read somewhere that they are developing 3d support for linux, only 2d is supported as we speak, but at least you could play fallout ^^
and with a pc os on the box you wouldnt need as much space on the ps3, you could stream data from a network drive, thats when it starts to look like a media center!
and i'm sure that when 3d support is available a lot of people will start porting games, linux ppl loves nothing more than to port things tongue.gif

it already has 4 usb ports, they should put them to use, a USB hdd in one drive, keyb, mouse, and a webcam, who needs the old noisy smelly nicotine covered box covered in litter hidden under your desk now?

It has keyboard and mouse support, just not for games.

Edit : Let me clarify, just not for PLAYING games.

PS3 40GB only has 2 USB ports, but I bought an expander for like 9$ at a local PC vendor so it's a win win for me.

I mean on the PS3, like PS3 titles you cannot GAME with a keyboard and mouse, rofl, you can use it on the Linux OS biggrin.gif

20GB/40GB/60GB/80GB all have different amounts of USB afaik.
