they are used for crafting just about all end game things, at least a sizeable chunk of them

You also need minimum lvl 46 miner just to have a chance of mining them
a single darksteel node spawns like once every 1h15minutes
you need 50 mining and a lot of good gear just to mine hq ores

you need 50 blacksmithing + some gear just to make the ore into nuggets.

Armorer can make nuggets, plates, etc. and gear from them also. Like BSM you also need certain skill point requirements to make them.

Lol behemoth server nuggets tanked yesterday. New level 50 miners. Ur nuggets will go from 60k to 10k anytime now.
