I'm curious to know what people think is the best soundtrack in the series. It's a hard choice for me, because I think that FF8 has the best overall soundtrack, however I feel like FF9 has the most emotional, the songs carry more weight there. FF9 has more songs that feel personal, I suppose. But then again, FF8 has a soundtrack that I can listen to as a stand alone a lot easier than any other, there is just enjoyable track after enjoyable track. If someone put a gun to my head and demanded that I picked a top 3, I'd probably go with:

1. FF8
2. FF9
3. FFT

I really respect Tactics' soundtrack, i feel like it sets the mood of the game much better than any other. I also think that is a strength of 8's, but Tactics still does a better job.

Just my opinion anyways.

I think 7 and 10 have rather weak soundtracks, 10 in particular. I honestly think that 10 only has a few decent songs, and the rest is just meh. 7 is solid, but not overly impressive, so I have a hard time ranking it high. 6 has a few standout songs, it's similar to 10 imo. But, the older ones before the PS era, lets just face it, they've all been outdone, and so many of those songs have been used again and upgraded upon. I just couldn't see me picking any of the older games as a favorite.

I forgot to say about Tactics:

I don't think a lot of people give it any credit because it's not Uematsu, it's done by Sakimoto who has a pretty different and more distinct style. It's more woodwind and bells, which hardly shows up in Uematsu.

What I find interesting about FFT, is that it has a ton of battle themes, nearly every stage is a different battle theme, which I thought was an absolutely brilliant idea, since the battles take place on different stages. It keeps the game fresh, since you are hearing a different musical piece with nearly every major battle you fight. I really think that boosts that soundtrack up quite a bit for me, it's so different in that sense from all the other FF games. You don't have to hear the same 3 or 4 battle themes the entire game, which can get repetitive!

Of the ones i've played, X has my favorite soundtrack.

6, 7 and 10 have really memoarable songs, but if we look at the overall I'd say 8 and 9 are the best.

I've played 1-10 (except 3), 10-2 and 12

I love FF6's sound track. Terra's Theme is my favorite. Also liked 8 and 9's. 7's was okay.

Yeah, the only problem for me with 7 and 10 in particular, is there are a few "great" songs, but everything else doesn't really blow you away.

Like if I look at 7, I really only think that Aerith's Theme, The Valley of the Fallen Star(cosmo canyon), Main FF7 Theme(Aka Cloud's Theme sometimes), Tifa's Theme, Birth of a God, and One Winged Angel(though I don't particularly like it myself, I know its iconic though), those would really be the only standout songs in that game. People are never like "OMG Underneath the Rotting Pizza is so amazing!!".

But if you compare that with 8, 8 might not have as many standouts: probably only Eyes on Me, The Landing, Liberi Fatali, Man With the Machine Gun, and The Extreme. Even though there probably aren't as many standouts from a fans point of view, all the songs that aren't the iconic ones are still really good. Which is harder to say about 7 or 10.

1. FFIX
2. FFVI
3. FFVII

In my opinion, it has to be FF9.

Wow that is a tough one. I would probably say FF7 followed closely by FF9. FF8 and FF10 are also amazing.

Just for the record Chrono Cross soundtrack is my favorite soundtrack of any game I've ever played.
