Ofc.. still play this on PSP.

PSX Ramza - Samurai w/ Squire 2nd, Blade Grasp (Squire l8er in Ch4 w/ Samurai 2nd)
Or Dark Knight Ramza (PSP) w/ Squire 2nd

Agrias - Holy Knight, White Magic, Blade Grasp, Attack up (Give her the accessory you get from Mustadio in PSP)

Random chick chars (Cid is too strong)

Imedia (I always start w/ this bitch for some reason. My magic hoe. She gets the Chantage)
Blk Mage / Summoner, Short Charge (Or quickcast.. cant remember the name).

Usually make one a Dancer / Thief for the hell of it. Dancers actually work pretty good in the Underground dungeon.

Mustadio as a Machinist w/ Knight 2nd always works well, too. Although the guy you get in PSP is a shitload better skill/stat wise. They must hate Mustadio.

Although this game is my favorite FF, and one of my top favorite RPGs, and I love it to death.. going to have to pass. Got some other RPGs that are long overdue to be beaten that I need to get to. Already beaten Tactics from start to finish 3 times so I need to get some other games beaten before the summer ends haha.

Just opened my last save file though, here was my party setup right before the final boss:

Ramza (Squire). Skills - Guts, Punch Art, HP Restore, Two Swords, Move +3
Level 73 Gear - Excalibur, Save the Queen, Thief Hat, Power Sleeve, Bracer

Winter (Archer). Skills - Charge, Sing, HP Restore, Concentrate, Move +3
Level 69 Gear - Gastrafitis(crossbow), Crystal Shield, Thief Hat, Power Sleeve, Bracer

Anton (Lancer). Skills - Jump, Punch Art, Hamedo, Two Hands, Move +3
Level 68 Gear - Javelin(the good one), Crystal Helmet, Reflect Mail, Germinas Boots

Singleton (Knight). Skills - Battle Skill, Draw Out, Blade Grasp, Two Hands, Move +3
Level 64 Gear - Ragnarok, Crystal Helmet, Reflect Mail, Bracer

Those are my main 4. The last member just depends how I feel at the time really, or what I might need for a fight. The other choices were:

Beowulf (Temple Knight). Skills - Magic Sword, Yin Yang Magic, Arrow Guard, Defend, Move-Find Item
Level 50 Gear - Rune Blade, Crystal Shield, Crystal Helmet, Crystal Mail, Magic Gauntlet

Cloud (Soldier). Skills - Limit, Item, Blade Grasp, Short Charge, Move +3
Level 61 Gear - Materia Blade, Thief Hat, Black Costume, Bracer

And I'd occasionally change some of the characters above to summoner / white magic.

Some thoughts:

My best two characters were by far Ramza and Anton(My Lancer). I recommend always having a Lancer in your party, their ability to move vertically and horizontally is unmatched, and they can attack all across the map. Basically Ramza and Anton would go out and do all the damage, Singleton died alot.. he seemed to be targeted I swear haha. Winter(my archer/bard.. yes I crafted him after Robin Hood haha) would stand back and use buffing songs at the start, then I'd usually change him to healing songs. Also, if there was a pesky running enemy, I'd send Winter after him since he has range. Sometimes I'd change the Bracer off of Winter and change it to Germinas Boots. Germinas Boots is the most underrated item in the game I think, especially early in the game. Also, I prefer character classes who use Light Armor rather than heavy armor(even though I had a knight and lancer), because light armor gives more beneficial stat boosts. Heavy armor gives you more HP, but Light Armor gives you things like attack power and abilities to stop certain status effects. And, as far as skills go, I think thatBlade Grasp is by far the most overlooked skill in the game. The evasion boost from it is incredible, you'll basically never be hit by physical attacks again. Everyone knows that things like Hamedo and HP Restore are good, but I thought I'd just throw a shout out to Blade Grasp.

Another thing, I think that after a certain point mages basically become more of a hassle to have in your party. Skills like Punch Art, Item, Draw Out, and Sing really just make them a liability. You can get healing and attacks in much more quickly than you could with a white mage or black mage, respectively. Not to say that they are all bad though, because Summoners are extremely useful, but as far as healing goes I'd say just having someone with Punch Art and a high attack is just as good, and a lot quicker.

This post got a lot longer than I intended.. so /end rant.

sorry zvlod talking about the original from ps one..

Lublar sounds like u had a hella good setup, il keep that in mind while im going tghrough the game. right now i learned the important skills for squire and split up my team into knights and archers, going to change my chemsest into a mage once i learn trhough item. il keep posted on what im going to be making for the future. pretty sure imma make my archer into a theif then a lancer once i get a little further down the line but im still pretty early in the game.

any one else got any input that would be sweet!

also what are the zodiac stones for? they have any use once u get them all?

Man there are so many fun builds to do but I've played that game way too much, I would say just experiment around and see what you like theres tons of fun combinations to be had :D

On the other hand though If you want most OP char ever you could make this though

Black mage

Black Magic
Math Skill (needs at LEAST all ct and CT and #'s memorized)
Blade Grasp (or Autopotion with only xpots stocked)
Magic ATK UP (or Equip Shield)
Teleport (or move +2)

Faith Rod
None (or Aegis Shield)
Flash Hat (or Ribbon)
Chamelion Robe
Setiemson

Chameleon Robe is for soaking holy's, basically have whole group with chameleon robe or Excaliburs on and launch a ct 3 4 or 5 holy (will need to learn that from priest) at start of battle at start of and watch it heal / hurt everyone on the battlefield for 999

Don't forget about Monks, or at least the Chakra skill. Will help shitloads when grinding. Beat your own characters up then heal w/ Chakra. Also useful for leveling up storyline characters (Like Agrias) as they dont have accumulate for ez points.
Ramza as a Ninja will help out a shitload l8er when you've gotta fight a particular boss 1 on 1. Blood sword/ strongest weapon you got can usually take him out in 2-3 turns.
