A small intro:
Each weapon as you have probably already noticed, starts at level 1. You have also probably noticed that the items you have been looting are not items you use in any battle, they're crafting items. Put those together and you have a way to level up your weapons.
There are some points to watch out for though.
first, make sure you save before you start experimenting, don't be wasting those materials as some of them are hard to come by.
Of course each crafting material gives different amounts of xp to your weapon, but on top of that, some crafting material when applied to your weapon will give your weapon an XP Bonus. this bonus can get as high as 3 times the original number. so if you have an item that normally gives 200xp, first you use the other materials to get your weapon up to x3 bonus, then highlight the 200xp item and you'll notice it has already been multiplied while your bonus is effective, to read 600xp.
however, once you use that item and it gives your weapon 600xp, you may notice that your xp bonus has been removed or knocked down a notch or two. so your goal is to conserve the items that give you your x3 bonus while loading a ton of xp in at once with a stack (99) of 1 item.
if your weapon only needs 500 more xp to cap it at the ＊ level (max), then only give it 500. if you give your weapon 5000 xp you will have just wasted 4,500xp worth of materials. so save your game, then do your math and calculate it out or try it out a couple times so you don't use any more than you have to.

"-Go to the 生体素材けものや(Organic Materials Shop) and buy tons of 彩りゼリー (Colored Jelly). When you apply 36 of the jelly at once to a weapon, it gets a x3 experience bonus.
-Go to the LENORAガレージ(Lenora's Garage) and buy as many as you can of the 完全導体 (Perfect Conductor). It's expensive, but gives 2577 EXP to a weapon with the x3 bonus and you can buy it in infinite amounts. You can also use any other powerful materials you may have."

However, there might be times when it is better to use lower exp item if you are almost to max, such that you don't waste the exp.
Ultra Compact Fusion Reactors to become available after mission 7. They are not listed in Lenora's shop, they are in a different shop, the one that offers the upgrade for ultimate weapons.
the game is still new, so please don't take this to be the absolute best way. the information from the JP wiki is the easiest way this guy has found in 1 week, there could be better alternatives. if you find something better, please tell us so we can post it.
All weapons have 2 base stats: Attack Damage Enhancer (attk) and Magic Damage Enhancer(ma). Some weapons have more stats added to that.
After reaching the ＊ level, you can upgrade to a teir two weapon. To get the ultimate weapon for a character, you have to max out a tier 2 weapon and then use a トラペゾヘドロン(Trapezohedron) on it.
Some of the information listed may not be correct. I have copied and pasted, added some translations and that's all. The information I personally have confirmed will be listed in Yellow.
