i had high hopes for ff12
and ill never pay almost 70 bucks for another final fantasy again =/
I actually really liked FF12. There was so much to do at the end of the game (hunts, rare game, espers, secret dungeons, creating the best weapons/items, etc). It kept me occupied for ages. That was probably the main thing that made me enjoy the game.
The story was decent, but certainly not one of better stories in an FF game. The characters...some were annoying, some were great. I'd probably appreciate the story more if I went straight through the game without completing any sidequests. The first time I went through the game, I got about halfway through then started doing sidequests, so by the time I started going through the story again, I had forgotten large parts of it.
Despite the criticism that it got, I thought the music was done quite well (although I guess it wasn't quite as good as the music in previous FF games). The sound was pretty amazing, especially the background noise in the big cities.
The graphics were *amazing* (although they are one of the last things I look for in a game). The big cities were done so well that I felt I was actually there (all the people going about their business, the attention to detail in the backgrounds, etc). The graphics actually rivaled some of the early next-gen games.
I really liked the fact that there was no world map. Yes, it was a change from the normal FF formula, but it gives you more of a sense of scale compared to the world map (a giant person walking over a small map).
No random battles? Great (decades of random battles do get to you a bit). Despite there being no random battles, the battle system actually wasn't that different from your normal turn-based system. It was basically just a turn-based battle system disguised as an MMORPG battle system.
It could have been better, but I wouldn't consider it a bad purchase. I certainly got my money's worth out of it. When going through all the sidequests, I think I forgot about the game's downfalls.
