I take into account greatly the battle and more importantly skill development portion of these games, it seems that most of them had genuinely good story lines (though some were better than others ofc). what i think makes and breaks a game is the battle/skill development portion of the game.

I highly rate:
FF6/3
FF7
FF9
FF10-2 (even though the gameplay wasnt as good as FF10)
FF Tactics

I lowly rate:
FF1
FF8
FF12(The battle system is good but buying skills? nty)

My favorite though has to be FF Tactics just because of the amount of thought that went into the Skill allocation with JP/XP for lvling

imo FF X has best skill developement.
1st of all it's insanely hard to complete the full grid on each char of the game
and even more it's possible to play thru the game without using any of the skills ( and modifiable equips )
that ain't alredy availeble.

in all it's means it's a challenge which ever way you play it.

I prefer the no sphere grid, no modding items challenge to be tested after playin through the game at least once.

NOT saying it's easy but definitely worth of trying.
Only a few will ever complete the challenge.
I prefer anyone who is interested to read more about it over web.

12
8
7

12 due to the complete customization of your characters
8 because I loved drawing and junctioning (don't ask me why, I know lots of people hated it...)
7 because materia was fun to use

12 Best techniks for the Low Level Game
8 Like ghostman I like the draw thing. Plus junctioning you can actually heal magics like Bio
3 (US Version) Well that was my first game I ever got on the SNES and the only game too.

imo, best skill system was ffx-2, because it's concepts of gaining ap and the jobclass system was used quite effectively, and even the battle system was good (although the graphics were just slightly girlish). ff12 had the best battle system, but i agree that the skills needed working on. best story is and always will be ff8 for me happy.gif

you could heal any kinda of magic in 7, the support materia was amazing imo with a LIMITED number of slots, which i think was more challenging than 12 or 10 where a character can have an unlimited amount of skills.

that's the reason that i also liked FF9's skill system, even though each character could only develop certain skill types.

All in all i still say FF Tactics has the greatest variety and best battle gameplay

FFI. Without this one, the path would have never been made at all for these RPGs to come out.

Fun Fact: Squaresoft named it "Final Fantasy" because it was the last game that they put out before they were going to declare bankruptcy. Luckily it caught on. And grew. Like wildfire.
