idk man if i just got bad or what

but i feel like they changed the arena matching algorithm from being only the current score you have to also something like total no of arena victories you have or whatever

cause i feel like i keep on matching with either imba decks at 0-2 or like proper good players all the time. over the last few arenas legit 50% of opponents used legend card back

i used to avg like 5.7 wins over like 200 arenas and now the past like 20 or so i've had probably like a 2.5 win avg

shits fucked up

did arena players just generally get better or?

The meta shifted, and maybe you are drafting like you used to rather than changing along with it?

They changed arena twice in a short period of time, and the meta shifted as a result. Since the last change, im a bit above 7 wins average per run. To be fair, take what I say with a grain of salt... luck is a huge factor in arena and its entirely possible you're just getting unlucky or im getting lucky.

I think the key to playing arena well is identifying what the meta is and building a deck that counters that. It seems the meta right now is a tempo-control mix (early game board control fight, then an attrition/control play style to finish off your opponent). I think in the past the meta has generally favored tempo decks as a rule, and has rewarded aggro often.

The recent expansions have shifted the meta toward a value game in my opinion. Powerful battlecries and defensive measure make aggro decks inconsistent. I feel like Hunter for example is generally weak after the patch (it was stronger before). The biggest winners after the recent patch in my view are druid (for its defense) and warrior (for its tempo) - both have been bottom tier up until now. Shaman is statistically the best atm, if im not mistaken, rogue feels weaker, and mage seems to have weakened in strength (but is still obviously very powerful). Paladin and priest as some top contenders if you get good drafts.

I generally plan a deck that has high value and as much on board-control effects as possible. Minions with "deal x damage", taunts and board clear spells are premium. Games up until 5-6 wins tend to be aggro/tempo decks, after that in high wins the attrition decks are superior and thats all you really see.

For me:
Warrior>Druid>Shaman>Paladin>Warlock>Mage>Priest>Rogue (Hunter no games in the last 30 days).

Rogue/mage used to be my best classes, i feel theyre inconsistent and squishy nowadays.

The game manipulates your draws/matchups based on the amount of money you've recently spent.

The worst possible scenarios are f2p (the game uses you as cannon fodder) and a whale that hasn't spent anything recently (the game thinks it can get you to buy packs to make yourself feel better after constant losses).

All the talk about meta, etc. is cringeworthy; the Arena is nothing but a Tavern Brawl except it's rigged.

Yeah absolutely check out some streamers. I like Kripp a lot, but theres plenty out there. He specifically plays a lot of arena, and hes consistently one of the best out there despite getting sniped every so often.

You get to learn about the meta by watching others play and without spending any gold, plus they might teach you something you didnt know.

As for druid - I agree completely, up until very recently it was a terrible class, one of my worst actually, but its really solid nowadays. Lots of good stall mechanics that lead to crushing board swings, and although they lack good clears, removals and early game tempo they are pretty solid.

Also, crackling doom is surprisingly not as OP as you might think - at least as far as I have experienced it. It pretty much game over to empty your hand in favor of tempo and play into your opponents clear, so you just try to keep a little value in reserve when playing against a shaman, much the same way you did when ungoro was new and volcano was common. To be fair, since it eats your whole next turn, the card forces your to play your biggest threats immediately after you clear with it, which if removed means you get fucked. Its generally only a one-of in any given deck anyway so the chances of running into one vs. a shaman is probably less than 50%. Honesty, I feel its on a similar power level as volcano - maybe slightly better but not WAY better.
