Hi,

I'd played hs before for a short time and now I'd like to come back. Are there any recent and decent guides so I can hit the ground running? What packs or cards are essential, a relatively cheap but okish deck to get, etc.

Thanks in advance!

welcome back to shutter island.

this should be helpful:
https://hsreplay.net/meta/

you can click 'most popular deck' and there will be a dust value for crafting each deck so you can get a good idea of how much they cost to build.

sets: meanstreets, whispers and kharazan rotate out of standard next month so i woudnt buy them

Do I need that kobolds and catacombs dlc? I'll definitely check these decks out in detail later so thanks for the link.

can also check out tempostorm which has similar information

i wouldn't invest significantly since the next expansion is around the corner so you don't know what cards you will / won't need

Honestly, cheapo hunter decks are still doing great in Standard non-ranked play. Great for building gold.

Just netdeck every top tier deck and you can push legend and compete easily.
I'm sure many will spew that certain plays can majorly affect the game, so skill matters.. which is true to an extent..
..but once you understand the interaction of the cards and the fact that nearly everybody you play in ranked is running a top deck from online, that might tech in 1-2 different cards, it's pretty easy to predict how things are going to go.
It's a sad state of affairs when it's only fun sitting in rank 20 until the last day and then pushing rank 5 just for rewards.. unless you enjoy being monotonous and mundane ofc
To be fair I cant really shit on the ranked aspect too much as Im more of a collector (getting goldens of the stuff I like, mostly cards that will generate more golden ones).. which might be more vapid than achieving legend with undertaker or mysterious challenger
