With a triple whammy of maintenance, the Standard wait and work, I got thinking about the cards they are nerfing, which is obviously a big change, maybe even more significant then the new WOG cards. With the 'leaked' release date of April 26 for xpac, we would likely get the nerfs a week before, on April 19. Let's see if we can call what cards will be nerfed and possibly how they will be nerfed.

First, on the number of cards they expect to nerf, if I remember correctly, they said 2-20 and then narrowed it to 10-12. So I'll take a stab at picking 10 cards that I think will get hit with the nerf bat, starting with the ones that seem most likely to me and using information I have read or seen from various sources.

1 - BGH - Duh, make it so it only kills Giants?
2 - Savage Roar - Seems more likely then FoN to get hit, to avoid dust refunds
3 - Master of Disguise - Cause limits design space
4 - Knife Juggler - 2/2 and probably only throw knives when minions are played from hand
5/6 - Leper Gnome / Abusive - Grouping them, they have been mentioned and it feels like they are just too good in agro decks
7 - Ancient of Lore - Underrated amazing card, maybe a stat decrease
8/9 - Keeper of the Grove / Iron Beak Owl - Silence seems likely to change
10 - Divine Favor - Suck it Pallys

Other stuff I've heard is possible freeze mage adjustments (Ice Block and Alex) and basic Rogue card changes (which just seems mean). What do you think?

I hear Alex might get a nerf, which is unfortunate. If they are nerfing BGH they might nerf Molten Giants as well.

I'm just hoping that Handlock and Freeze Mage are still viable. I think Handlock would be good but I hear Freeze Mage might be dead from some top players.

I like the idea of tying the BGH nerf to Giants. Apparently, Giants are why BGH was created in the first place and I've seen some suggestions for increasing the cost of Mountain and Moltens slightly. Instead of changing the Giants though, I think it'd be better if they made Giant a tribal tag and changed BGH's battlecry to 'Destroy a Giant'. I think Handlock is still playable under those conditions.

A change to Alex would be disappointing, simple as that, it's a really cool card. I think the best thing going for Alex is that it's really popular and they will be hesitant to give so many players a 1600 dust refund. I don't think they want to crush the Freeze archetype, but it doesn't lose a ton in Standard, so I wouldn't be surprised if they changed something.

I think it was firebat that said Blizz really hates freeze mage even though they say they like combo decks. But I never really got a chance to play it and I want to.

/e And I just want to take RNG out of cards like Implosion. Rolling a 2 vs rolling a 4 could be game deciding.

Unfortunately, Murk Eye is going to be Wild only, which is lame.

I recently crafted the last pieces for torch Freeze mage and have been having a ton of fun playing it. I'm not particularly good at it yet, but definitely a good time.

As for Implosion, I think that since it is going to Wild they will not change it. It's a super frustrating card, like Crackle (also going Wild), but pretty good anyways. I'd like to see them move away from cards with that much RNG in the future. But then they go ahead and create Renounce Darkness, which makes Implosion look anything but random.

Edit- Maintenance is over early?!

Oh yeah, implosion is GvG. I think RNG is fine as long as it isn't game defining or impossible to play around. Like, you can play around MC Tech and Brawl, but you can't really play around a shredder getting doomsayer.

the 3 main ones are

1) bgh - make it so ether it deals like 5-7 set damage or make legendaries immune to bgh
2) savage roar - imo should become 5 mana just like bloodlust
3) juggler - keep the 3-2 but make it so only when you play a minion and not summon

The game definitely needs a card like BGH
But it needs to not completely counter big minions PLUS still give you lots of remaining mana

Making it cost 5 would be pretty good
