Count out how your opponent could have lethal on almost every turn. Life tap accordingly.
This. knowing your opponents reach, when to heal, when to taunt and when to go aggressive are a big part of a properly played handlock.
Figure out your matchup and know when you need to utilize your spells for maximum effeciently.
Try to not over extend if the situation presents itself and they could have clears.
know what to mulligan for/keep in a certain matchup.
chances are if your playing against a hunter or something you probably don't want to throw back the healbot/w.e early game you got going for a first card giant chance.
Also know when to taunt only one minion vs both minions you could can also lead to a victory.
IE taunt up that healbot instead of the giant +bot if they only have one monster and used alot of removal. or maybe only taunt up the giant if they are a weapon class and it means the difference with your follow up burst play that he takes 8 dmg to remove that now.
Tl;dr Know your matchup. Know your deck. Know your draw chances and give yourself a line to win when all else is looking bleak.
