I was wondering what "tempo" means because I see it in decks for example tempo mage

tempo is basically spending your cards to gain board advantage

this. Like sap for example. When you play sap you dont actually kill anything or gain card advantage. You send something back to their hand just to gain some board control at the cost of a card.

Basically this and gaining control of the entire game. Tempo has the ability to control whatever you drop and or burst you down. Zoo and Mech/Tempo Mages are great examples. Once they lose tempo however it's gg.

Tempo keeps board control no matter what.
They typically build boards quickly with lots of draw or cost efficient cards.

If you want a simple definition

Face->Aggro->Tempo->early Combo ->Midrange-> lategame Combo->Control.

You can look up minion picks or use the mana curve.

Tempo decks usually try to win by Turn 7-8.
Aggro try to win by turn 5-6
Face try to win by turn 4-5

Most late game combo takes longer than control to win
They have to go through their entire deck.

Most combo decks also run a LOT of card draw.... So it depends. Lol
