it's never played because its cost was nerfed to 2 mana
i was using two flares when it was only 1 mana ^^

Wow I forgot that nerf even happened. Guess my point is kind of moot then

Though I don't think flare would've been played if it didn't also get rid of secrets

AI confirmed terrible card, that's why it's not run in any single mage deck, definitely not in any tempo mage decks, and of course not in any freeze mage decks.

Seems like a pretty insightful discussion tbh since there are two very opposed opinions with legend players on both sides of the argument

Nobody is saying it's a bad card in every deck (well op is but he's a confirmed moron). I'm saying the card draw function of the card in isolation is fairly mediocre, even bad.

Yeah I'm a troll because you can't wrap your head around a simple concept.

The card is not used for deck thinning, period, the deck thinning effect of it is an extremely small bonus. 3 mana for a marginally thinner deck is not a good tradeoff.

You're either a troll or kind of dumb ^-^
Or maybe you don't understand what deck thinning is oO;

Using freeze mage as an example, you need a certain combo of cards ( Emperor / Ice Lance / Ice Lance / Frost Bolt / Malygoss ) so you thing your deck by adding nothing but draw cards - that's what deck thinning is. When you stack draw cards, like in freeze mage, it's deck thinning to increase the chances of drawing your full combo so every other card in the deck is about stall / draw. 2 Loot Hoarder, 2 Acolyte, 2 intellect. The largest benefit of mad scientist is the deck thinning.
