season 9 looks to be more pay to win than usual though. the premium + or w/e it's called, having a hero reroll each game, kind of kills it a bit for me.
they already have extra options for heroes, which is more than enough of an edge over f2p.

the track only offering a few tokens to f2p is just a slap in the face to f2p. i can count on far less than 1% of games having a reroll option.
or i can play "once" every week just to "partially" diminish the favor p2w players will have this season.

and when season 9 doesn't make enough money. there will be minion tokens for season 10.

take me back to season 7...

Demons are nuts, the biggest strength I've found this season is mechs and quillboar. Naga used to be OP and they just aren't that anymore.


I miss the old battle cry Murlocs with Swolefin, and even moreso miss when Hogger was a minion and not a hero. APM pirates was so much fun. Same with APM elementals.


They've introduced a lot of elements to the game over the years but the hero reroll might just be the least savory one. The one aspect I loved about HSBG was how for the most part it was an even playing field (aside from heroes + compositions being impossible to beat)


Drop tavern spells and trinkets and buddies.



And bring back leap frogger :lol:

i'm pretty new to the BG scene. i started at the very end of season 7, but i loved it. it was an unhealthy obsession until season 8 rolled out.

i don't like the trinket system for season 8. you are largely reliant on getting one of a couple trinkets to outcompete anyone else running the same minion scheme.
if you are stuck with getting a t6 minion every 2 turns, that somehow always are a minion type you aren't using... and the other guy gets the 2x elementals give minions in tavern armor and attack...
his t5 demon will be over 2k hp/att and yours will be stuck around 400. even less if you don't get the greater trinket to increase tavern stats on dmg or (x)refreshes.

it's the same with all minion types.
murlocs. you better get add stats when you play a card trinket. maybe you can scrape buy with a give stats to left minion equal to stats in hand, or summon your first minion twice. but not easily.

quillboar. unfortunately for you, you can't pick from a trinket that modifies bloodstones. instead, your first 2 tavern spells are free...

i just hate the extra layer of rng that's kind of forced on you mid-game.
i'd rather decide to upgrade to t4 tavern or string out a few more minions instead of being forced to pick a lesser trinket i don't want.

if there is anything about season 9 that gives me hope. it's that it doesn't have trinkets.

the trinkets used to be dependent on board composition + what was in your hand but I think they tossed that out the window and it turned to ass


a lot of RNG, you're right. Anymore you just play random comp and hope to hit the lotto and audible to whatever your trinket dictates.


I loved trinkets too, but I think just with any other season, shit gets stale and it's time for a refresh

tried season 9 for a few minutes before i lost interest.
2 games and i only went a few rounds each before i conceded.

game 1: i noticed mechs and beasts got some really good starter cards for early rounds. one of the mech cards may stay on board till the end.
game 2: i noticed demons and murlocs aren't even in the rotation right now. i quit.

i'm thinking of calling it quits tbh. every log-in for the last few months has been extremely disappointing and things just seem to keep getting worse.
with each "update" to season 8, you could definitely "feel" the hidden changes on BG with forced RNG.

demons.. murlocs.. quillboar... key minions have become more scarce to find, but only when you use that minion type. very consistently.
every game i play demons, i think "geez if only i picked murlocs, all the t4 cards i'd want on first pull"
every game i play murlocs... "oh... there's that soul rewinder... and there's that non-existent t5 demon that absorbs tavern minions every time you play a demon. oh, nice.. for 3 hp i can get 1 coin.."

it used to be funny when it happened. "luck of the draw". but over time the "luck" left and they were, imo, seemingly attempting to balance minion-types by forcing bad RNG on certain minion types when you use them.
am i crazy? whenever i get even 1 minion type that's a pirate/elemental/naga/beast/mech at random... the tavern board fills with them. if i'm playing them or not.

then the trinkets... sometimes i can understand when there's a few ppl running the same minion type. but... IT'S TURN 7 AND I DON'T HAVE A SOUL REWINDER YET AND EVERYONE ELSE PICKED QUILLBOAR. NO, I DON'T WANT TO SPIN THE WHEEL!

feel like i'm fighting the devs more than i am other players at this point.
crazy maybe but, my experience has been getting consistently worse, no matter.

they also hardcore nerfed my sorc yesterday. that 2 dmg drink was a finishing move before it became just another risky board clear.

First lobby I played of new season:

Beasts, Dragons, Naga, Pirates, Quilboar



Initial takeaway from Hero select:


They're really baiting people into spending money. Before, on the hero select if you did not have the tavern pass, you could not see more than two heroes. Now, it shows 4 with a padlock over two of them, further enticing people to spend money in a sort-of FOMO tactic.

Left a sour taste in my mouth but nevertheless I play on.



A lot of cool new minions. Quilboar still strong as ever. Unsure how to feel about the new Naga mechanic but seems to be working well with blood gems.


New Beetle Beast seems kind of fun, might have to try that out.



Unsure about the "choose one" quilboar build just yet but hyperfocused on the casting spells naga with quilboar





Looks like someone else went the same route with critter wrangler as well haha, got smoked. Placed 4th with this board:

They are introducing the left out minion types throughout the week so that people don't get overwhelmed with the new patch.

Quick game that finished on 13rd round.. i didnt feel like I scaled that much at all and lobby wasnt even half my board power..

I also tried the new beast meta.. its ok.. we were 4 playing beast in my lobby so I couldnt scale much but I feel like I already miss trinkets
