yes so

10 gold per 3 games won.

lets say you are a novice and only win 50% of all games you play

you end up playing 6 games for 10 gold

you need 60 games for one pack

each game takes 5-15 minutes

You can factor in quests which award you on average 50 gold per day

At best you earn a pack after 2.5 hours, at worst 7.5 hours. After your first pack and quest is complete you revert back to 5-15 hours per pack.

Or you could just get a minimum wage job, earn $7.25 per hour and get an average of 72 times more packs per day from that.

Yep.

IF you are consistently good in arena, you can make it work, but the vast majority of people do not have 7+ arena win averages.

when you start a new game, you dont expect to have access to all the items...
it's the same for hearthstone, you need to earn your way, and if you dont have the patience/time, you're free to use your money
i dont get how it's such a problem, i've never put any cent in HS and i have nearly all the cards and like 50k dusts

you started a long time ago, people also didn't have that much cards back then.

If you had to rebuild today from scratch and wanted to be competitive in the ladder, maybe you wouldn't have the same opinion.

You shouldn't join a game 3 years late and expect to be competitive without sacrificing something

You can be competitive in any FPS game like Overwatch and call of duty 3 years late.

Even in RTS games like StarCraft if you have a lot of skills.

''I don't get how it's such a problem''

That is your opinion to deem it as not a problem.

Some people think it's a problem.

Free to play games need to make money either through cosmetics or catch-up mechanics.

Or sometimes the pay to win model like in Archeage or Perfect World Entertainment games

I'm still wondering about how Overwatch is going to make money down the road since the game is fairly cheap.

Selling skins is their only way to make money.
