Don't lump me in with him. I've already made numerous arguments and examples to illustrate my point and none of these so called experts have had any answers.

It's sad, really. Nothing annoys me more than people who argue with you when you know better than them.

you've taken every individual aspect of arcane intellect and made arguments for why you dislike it
the deck thinning may not have a huge impact on the game
the draw may be inefficient
but taken together the card gives you what you need for the particular deck it is played in (control mages)

also, you've completely ignored that topdecking this thing lategame is a godsend. both players have 10 mana, neither of us has any 10 mana spells in our deck. i suddenly have twice as much versatility on my turn than you, or better yet, i can play twice as many threats as you.
you say you have quite a bit of experience with magic. this card (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=45978) has long been a cornerstone of some of the best vintage decks in magic. it does essentially what arcane intellect does except that one draws you 3/60 (5%) vs arcane intellect's 2/30 (6.7%). if we factor in when the card is likely to be played, that differential goes up even more. granted there are other considerations at play here affecting the power of these cards, but the numbers at the very least are favorable.

All I said was it was average. And then later that it's deck thinning effect is completely insignificant. I never said the card sucked.

Your point about the card's functions all adding up is exactly what I've been trying to say. TWO people in here were claiming the card is played because of its deck thinning effect. That's just a joke.

That's an interesting comparison to thirst for knowledge. I'll have to think about that more before I respond, but we need to remember just how powerful and fast the decks it's in are, and that choosing what card to discard makes it drastically better than just drawing two cards. It's virtually as good as just draw three cards. (And let's also keep in mind that the value of mana in mtg is drastically different). Good post, thanks.

-_- I am willing to hear arguments about why you think the numbers are too low for your taste, but to ignore them completely just makes no sense. Almost 4 percent is gigantic, you can hardly dream of such a huge number in almost any other card game such as Magic the Gathering, Yugioh, etc.

So if a new born baby says 5x5 is 25 and a 50 year experience mathematician says 5x5 is 24, does that mean 5x5 is 24? No point in even looking into it, right, because the mathematician has a higher status?

You can assume.
Doesn't mean you're right at all.

except a mathematician would never say such a thing while being serious

So their master plan is to reach the top of their trade, when they are already at the top of their trade?..... Logic.
