What a terrible advise to not buy packs from the set you have the least cards. That's the opposite of what you should do.

You have set amount of $ and gold you can spend on packs. You will get the same amount of dust whatever packs you buy.
There are only two ways you can lose dust:
1 - when you open a card that you crafted earlier
2 - when you disenchant a card that you need to craft later

Given that, what packs should you buy? Opening a common card that you need is worth 40 dust, opening a common you'll just disenchant is worth 5 dust. Buy packs from expansion that you lack the most usefull cards. You can go to Hearthpwn enter collection manager, put into your collection all cards you own, and all cards you don't need. The collection manager will show you how much dust you need to finish collection for each individual set. Buy packs from the set you lack the most dust.
Other than that you should spend all your $ you want to spend and all your gold before crafting anything.
First craft cards from expansions that you'll no longer buy packs from.

Yup, issue is, most ppl have a short term vision of thing. Ppl crafting commons and rares are way too impatient imo

Though looking at the long term, buying classic packs is great long term value considering they will never be rotated out of standard.

good point, do you disenchant all golden cards if you already have 2 plain copies?

I did when I first started since the dust was more valuable at the time for crafting new cards, but now that I have 95% of the cards, goldens are fun for collecting.

you'd be surprised by how many people don't do that even if they have a ton of golden cards.

Some people are sitting on like 20k dust because of that.
